Lecture and Seminar 9

Today's lecture was about Information system crimes, security and controls. The lecture was extremely interesting. The lecturer has informed us that we have to finish our blog posts over the period of the Easter holidays.

In today's seminar, we worked on our assignment and finished our blog and made it available for Susie to see it. Everything has been submitted now and all members of the group have contributed equally. Now it's time to focus on the second half of the coursework which is report.

During today's lecture we talked about Databases and Access 2010 (Microsoft). Firstly, we watched a short video on how important databases are and explaining that Access 2010 is better than Excel when analyzing data.

In our seminar lesson we have started to work on Access 2010, it was really interesting and rewarding since I have never worked on Access before.

This week our group has finished filming the video. I am really happy we all contributed equally. We have finished our presentation as well. We will upload it on youtube during the weekend. I am really satisfied with our group work, we have all worked together and helped each other.

During today's lecture we talked about Enhancing business intelligence using ISs' we learnt about the big demand of business intelligence and how is it essential for every ogranisation. We have also discussed  the role of business analytics and the architecture of a decision support system and expert system. In our seminar lesson we did some work on excel and pivot tables.

Today's lecture was about organisational effectiveness using enterprise. I found it interesting and very effective in regards to our coursework. Also, we were informed about changes to our coursework which now involves a power point presentation. In our seminar we did some excel work on "vlookup" and "if" functions. It was pretty easy and straightforward. As well I became confident while using excel.

During today's lecture we were talking about managers and their work as well as leadership. We discussed differences between a leader, manager and follower, which form the key part of leadership, because without followers there is no leadership. Furthermore we had a guest speaker talking about ways of leadership and showing us examples of a good leader. In the seminar we explored our case study precisely, we went through the slides one more time so we could understand her problems better and thinks of new ways how to improve her business. We arranged a group meeting which will be held on Wednesday. During the meeting we will discuss roles.

Today's lecture was particularly interesting. It was about Managing Business and its environments'. We learnt a lot about the impact of digital communication, the digital commerce environment and business digital models.

During our seminar lesson we did a case study in which we were exploring the Vlookup functions in excel. Furthermore, we analysed our group business case and found out we should focus on 3 major problems. While exploring her website we noticed her marketing is weak, moreover her HR/legal components were not organised and she was struggling with the accounting.

Today's lecture was quite different than the ones before. Firstly, we had two guest speakers. The first guest speaker talked about academic regulations and explained how are we going to be treated if we misconduct the regulations. The second guest speaker was a woman named Emily she set up a company named "Bizzie Bodies" which teaches children aged 6-11 french through art. We had to pay attention carefully because her business is related to our coursework. We will have to analyse her business in order to help her improve certain things. For the last 45 minutes we had a regular lecture about infrastructure and services held by our module leader. During our seminar lesson we did the business analysis case and we did some work on excel as well.

Today's lecture was about Business models and strategies in a digital world. I've learnt a lot of new things such as organisations, impacts on organisations, and business processes and routines. We have talked about 5 types of organizational structures and competitive forces. During our seminar lecture we did a task on 'Susie's Music Shop' in which we were required to prepare a cash flow budget for the six months period in excel. As I don't use excel often I found it very interesting and useful. I learnt how to use new functions on excel and we started a case study as well.

Today we had our first management and information systems lecture. The teacher introduced us to the module. We went through the module guide that was given to us at the beginning of the lecture. Firstly he explained the basic rules of attending his lectures. We went through the different assessment criteria. The teacher told us this module is 100% coursework based. The coursework is divided into the 2 parts. Firstly we will be formed into the groups of 5 and  make a presentation based on live study case that will be held during the lecture in week 3. Also we have to produce a blog post every week during our seminars. Secondly, we will have to write up a report about our experience of working as a group. Overall, I look forward studying this module.
